We are an established multi-disciplinary architectural design practice based in Cambridge, New Zealand, committed to providing beautiful design solutions that focus on your unique needs, lifestyle and site location.
We not only strive to create exceptional enduring design we also go to great lengths to ensure that the homes we create are healthy, sustainable and energy efficient. We are certified Passive House designers and designed and built the very first Passive House in the Waikato 9 years ago - the second Passive House ever built in New Zealand.

Brooke founded TAWA Architecture in 2016 with a vision of creating a niche architecture and interiors design studio, providing innovative and environmentally sustainable solutions to both the public and private sectors.
Brooke has 20 years experience leading both public and private sector projects, with a passion for quality design outcomes, New Zealand architecture and timeless interiors. Brooke values his relationships with his client’s and project teams, and sees this as another important aspect of delivering quality projects.
After architecture school Brooke gained overseas experience with 5 years in London under an award-winning architect, including time working in Germany, which is were the it became apparent the contrast in building quality in New Zealand. On arrival back in New Zealand, Brooke spent several years working in the Commercial and residential sectors before founding his own design firm, committed to delivering quality design solutions, use of timeless materials, proven performance-driven practises, and creating spaces that capture and create the sense of permanence.
Brooke see’s each project as an opportunity to create leading built examples of his values, sense of permanence, refinement and intelligent technologies.

Amie Cholmondeley-Smith
DIRECTOR - interiors
Amie has over 15 years experience in the design industry and understands that the most successful projects are all about heart. Amie provides a very detailed eye and a great understanding of colour and materials, working closely with the architectural team and each client to deliver bespoke interior projects and solutions.
Amie and her husband Brooke are a formidable team and love working together to bring architecture and interior projects to life.

Joseph McAuley
Masters of Architecture (Professional)

Te ara reo Māori (He pī ka Pao: lvl 2)
Joseph has 5 years experience in a range of education projects around Te Ika a Maui. His passion for developing architecture unique to New Zealand has lead him back to the classroom with on-going studies in te reo and tikanga Māori. Joseph is passionate about reinforcing and celebrating what already exists in the history and culture of a place.
Joesph has extensive expertise in CAD/BIM Management, master-planning & design research and is an invaluable asset to the Tawa team.
